TJ Watt has had an incredible two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season he was robbed of the Defensive Player of the Year Award and this year Mike Tomlin wants to make sure his voice is heard in regards to this debate this Season.
Tomlin said during his Tomlin Tuesday Press Conference that TJ Watt is visiting from another planet and he is the Defensive Player of the Year this season. Let us say TJ Watt deserved the award last season and definitely deserves it this season, but there is always bias it seems going against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
PFF recently released their highest-graded defenders this season and ranked TJ Watt at 3rd. They have Aaron Donald at 94.2, Khalil Mack at 92.4, and TJ Watt at 91.6. So if there was any indication on who PFF would name Defensive Player of the Year they would go with Aaron Donald at this point according to their rankings. TJ Watt doesn't get the respect he deserves and Mike Tomlin knows this. That is why he said what he said today in regards to the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
TJ Watt said the Steelers were far from done after the Colts game and it looks like Tomlin could play Watt somewhat against the Browns. This would give him the opportunity to break the Steelers All-Time Sack record. He just needs two more sacks to take it from James Harrison. TJ Watt currently has 53 solo tackles, 10 assists, 41 quarterback hits, and 1 interception. That is an incredible season and Mike Tomlin is correct. TJ Watt deserves to be the Defensive Player of the Year.
