It's now a well-known thing in the national media that the Steelers wide receivers love to make TikTok videos and corvette corvette on other team's logos before games. The question is, when did this start? How did this happen? Did it affect the team in a negative way? How does this impact the Steelers going forward? Let's dive in, shall we?
The first time JuJu started dancing on the other team's logo was November 8th against the Dallas Cowboys. Before the game JuJu did his famous Corvette Corvette dance on the Dallas star paying homage to TO. This wasn't that much of a story at the time because the Steelers were still winning games and were undefeated.
However, this is where things start to get a bit tricky. After a couple losses in a row and an especially embarrassing defeat to the Bengals following a pre game dance JuJu was smeared all over the national media for his role in the team lighting an unnecessary fire in the opposing team by disrespecting their logo before each game. Following the Bengals game, Mike Tomlin told JuJu to stop dancing on the logo and that was the end of that.
However, things only got worse from there. After seeing Chase Claypool filming JuJu performing the dance on the Bengals logo with JuJu the national media drug Claypool into the mess as well. Now painting both Steelers WRs as nothing more than a couple carefree clowns.
Now that we've taken a trip down memory lane with the whole TikTok thing we can discuss if this was an actual issue to the Steelers locker room. In my opinion this is how it went. When the Steelers were winning games, no one cared what JuJu and Claypool were doing. As a lot of people say, winning excuses a lot of things. Not to say that dancing and having fun is necessarily a wrong thing per say, but things like that can be very bad to the outside world when you start losing, and that's exactly what happened here.
I think ultimately what ruined the dancing was the combination of the team losing and the national media blowing up the story. Did it have an impact on the Steelers locker room? Absolutely, when every major sports network is calling your team out of course it will get to the players. Like it or not, I think we can all agree that we would have preferred to live in a world where this drama didn't happen and JuJu could still dance whenever he wanted with no scrutiny. However, like I said when you're winning things get by no problem. But when you start losing, things can get ugly.
Thank you so much for reading my first article Yinz! Have a great week everybody.
