The Pittsburgh Steelers have a ton of unrestricted free agents heading into the 2021 offseason. Villanueva is set to become one of those unrestricted free agents in March. Al has been with the Steelers for 7 seasons. He has been an integral part of their offensive line. During his time in Pittsburgh, he was a durable offensive lineman. He started all 16 games for the Steelers for 5 out of 7 seasons.
It does look like the Steelers offensive line will be completely revamped during the 2021 offseason. The Steelers parted ways with Shaun Sarrett who would sign with the Los Angeles Chargers. Pittsburgh then promoted Adrian Klemm who was a 2 year assistant under Sarrett to their new offensive line coach. So it looks like the offensive line is headed in an opposite direction which could mean an end for Villanueva's time in Pittsburgh.
Ed Bouchette of the Atheltic believes the Steelers are ready to move on from Alejandro Villaneuva. He feels they do not want to pay him. ESPN also says the best fit for Villanueva would be the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have a major need at left tackle with Sam Tevi going into Free Agency in 2021. ESPN says Villanueva would be an upgrade for Los Angeles even though he is 32 years old.
