Steelers OLB T.J. Watt has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Denver Broncos. This recognition comes after Watt registered 2.5 sacks on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. In addition to the sacks, Watt also tallied 4 additional tackles and hit the quarterback 4 times. This is the third time that the Steelers’ star pass rusher has received a team of the week honors in his short career.
Watt has already accumulated plenty of accolades for a player who has not even played out of his rookie contract yet. He can add this honor to a list that already consists of 2 pro bowls (2018, 2019) an NFL First-Team All-Pro honor (2019) and a year (2019) in which he finished 3rd in Defensive Player of the year voting.
The youngest of the Watt siblings will look to build off of his outstanding Week 2 performance as he takes on his brother JJ’s Houston Texans this week in Pittsburgh. TJ should have a favorable matchup against a Texans’ offensive that has struggled mightily. As for the rest of the 2020 season, the 4th year linebacker out of Wisconsin seems primed to have his best season yet as he and his fellow pass rushers are attacking quarterbacks at an alarming rate.
