The Steelers have finally got a contract extension done with T.J. Watt, and as expected, it's a massive deal. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Watt signed a four-year extension worth more than $112 million — $28.003 million average per year — with $80 million fully guaranteed at signing. Watt is now the highest paid defensive player in the league.
The hold-up for getting the deal done was that the Steelers have a long-standing policy of not guaranteeing money past the first year. However, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the $80 million in full guarantees that the Steelers gave Watt, is believed to be the strongest guarantee structure ever given out by the Steelers.
