What’s going on Steelers fans? It’s Bengals week, with the Steelers coming off a pretty poor performance against the Cowboys last week, let’s hope we can bounce back and blow out Cincinnati this week! For those of you who don’t know me Hi, my name is Luke Sawhook, I do social media and write articles for Dynasty Nerds, and am the newest member of Renegade Blitz! I’ll be here for all your Steelers fantasy needs. I’ll be writing a weekly Steelers fantasy outlook article to get a bit of a deep dive into your favorite Steelers fantasy players! With all that being said, let’s dive right into the week 10 fantasy outlook for our Steelers.
Quarterbacks:
Let’s start with our beloved signal-caller Big Ben! Ben has been playing really clean football this season which is honestly quite unlike him. Last week against a pretty poor Dallas secondary he threw 29 for 42 for 306 yards and 3 Touchdowns, for 26.74 fantasy points in 4 point passing TD leagues which is a season-high for Ben! A really great stat line for what felt like a pretty lackluster game for the Steelers offense until fairly late into the game. Let’s look into what we can expect for his fantasy performance against the Bengals this week.
The Bengals rank 18th against opposing QBs for fantasy purposes with opposing QBs averaging 22.5 Fantasy points per game. For Ben, this is a plus matchup against a slightly below average passing defense which will likely make him a decent streaming QB option this week, if you have Big Ben on your team, I’d definitely be willing to start him this week. My projected point total for Ben this week is 20.5 fantasy points.
Ugh, I really don’t even wanna write this section of the article, but if for some reason Ben cannot play Sunday due to Covid and Mason Rudolph takes over as QB just don’t start him, plain and simple. If you start Mason Rudolph anywhere you’re just asking for pain! My projected point total for Mason IF he were to start would be 12 fantasy points.
Wide Receivers
The Bengals are the 13th ranked defense against fantasy WRs this season which is a pretty average secondary to face, nothing to necessarily be scared of.
Chase Claypool has quickly become many people’s new favorite Steeler, and I can’t blame them.
For Claypool this week I expect a healthy amount of touches and I feel a touchdown coming for him. He won’t be drawing William Jackson in coverage which is a plus. Look for Chase to hit on a deep shot or two and hopefully to hit on a touchdown. I project 12.7 fantasy points for Claypool this week.
JuJu Smith-Schuster had a great game against Dallas last week! He went for 6 receptions, 93 yards and a clutch touchdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cincy had William Jackson shadow JuJu on Sunday which could hurt his production a bit. My projection for JuJu Sunday is about 60 receiving yards and maybe a touchdown, so I’ll give JuJu a projection of 10.6 fantasy points.
Diontae Johnson played pretty well last week against Dallas but didn’t see a touchdown come his way. I think we have come to expect this level of performance from Diontae for fantasy this year. I feel like we could have a big game from Diontae against the Bengals on Sunday. I feel like Diontae will have around 80 yards and hopefully a touchdown on Sunday. My projection for DJ this Sunday is 13.8 fantasy points.
Running Backs
James Conner didn’t get into much of a rhythm last week against the Cowboys, but I have hope that he can get it going against a weaker Cincinnati front 7 this week. The Bengals are 25th against fantasy RBs this season so I expect a pretty dang good fantasy day from Mr. Conner this week! I feel like the Steelers will have Conner get involved early and often and I think Conner could crack 100 total yards and a touchdown on Sunday. My projection for Conner this week is 18 fantasy points, fire him up!
Benny Snell and Anthony Mcfarland I feel are both sits for fantasy purposes at this time. Both will likely get carries against the Bengals, but barring a James Conner injury (God forbid) I don’t think there’s a reason to start either of these guys this week.
Tight End
Eric Ebron has steadily built a pretty solid relationship with Big Ben over the course of the season and scored a beautiful touchdown last week against Dallas hurdling over a defender to top off a nice fantasy day. The Bengals have a glaring weakness at guarding tight ends, especially for fantasy purposes, they rank 2nd worst in the league at 31st against the tight end.
I expect that Randy and the offensive crew will try and exploit this weakness in the game plan and hopefully look to get Ebron a sizable role in Sunday’s game. I expect Ebron to have around 50-60 receiving yards and hopefully another touchdown for the red zone threat. I project 10 fantasy points for Mr. Ebron this week against Cincinnati.
Wrap up
In conclusion, I believe that in most spots the Steelers’ skill positions are in a good position for some big fantasy potential this weekend! Let’s hope that our men of steel can pull through and make it 9-0 this Sunday. Thanks for reading Yinz, and good luck in all of your fantasy matchups this week!
