The Steelers announced today that they've signed running back Kalen Ballage to a one-year deal. The team also announced that offensive lineman Rashaad Coward's deal is for one year as well.

Ballage was a fourth-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. Ballage has rushed for 629 yards on 201 carries and seven touchdowns in 35 career games, eight of which have been starts. He also has 52 receptions for 285 yards.

Ballage spent two seasons with the Dolphins before signing with the Jets in 2020. He played just three games with the Jets before being released and eventually signed with the Chargers where he rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns.

Ballage is a depth signing at running back and the move for sure puts the end of any chance of James Conner returning. Ballage will compete with Benny Snell Jr., Jaylen Samuels and Anthony McFarland Jr. for playing time. The Steelers need to get their feature back in the draft and it should be either Najee Harris, Javonte Williams, or Travis Etienne.
