Steelers outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi was a restricted free agent, but with the Steelers having a little less than $6 million in salary-cap space, they decided to not tender Adeniyi, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Adeniyi will become a free agent on March 17.
Adeniyi was solid on special teams, but he never stood out as a pass rusher when it came to regular-season games. He would put on strong performances in the preseason, but he just couldn't put it together when the games mattered.
Maybe the Steelers re-sign Adeniyi on a cheaper deal, but I think they'll be looking for a better depth outside linebacker in free agency or the draft. Adeniyi has been with the Steelers for three years and he's shown to just be a special teams guy. He has value in that department, but they need a reliable No. 3 to fill in for T.J. Watt or Alex Highsmith when they need a rest.
