It seems the National Media has taken on the Ben Roethlisberger topic since signing his new contract. The same question that is being asked over and over again. Was it a good move for the Steelers to bring back Ben Roethlisberger? Most have taken their shots at the Steelers bringing back an 'old,' Ben Roethlisberger, but one person besides Stephen A. Smith actually said he likes the Steeler's chances with Ben Roethlisberger rather than without him.
On the show, Undisputed Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless discussed this topic about Ben Roethlisberger. Sharpe started the segment off saying the Steelers had no other options but to bring Ben back. All that the Steelers have is Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. He is shocked the Steelers haven't addressed the quarterback position for the future yet especially after what they went through once Terry Bradshaw left the organization. Good points were made by Sharpe for once in regards to the future of the Steelers quarterback position. You can't disagree that the Steelers have failed to address the quarterback issue in Pittsburgh. It's a fact.
Skip Bayless surprisingly defended the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger. He says do you remember when the Pittsburgh Steelers were 11-0? In the NFL getting to 11-0 is not easy and something had to have been going right with the Steelers. Skip said the Steelers went third in points allowed all season long on defense and Pro Football Focus ranked the Steelers defense second overall. Bayless realizes they crumbled down the stretch and went 1-5.
After losing to the Browns in the Wild-Card game and Ben Roethlisberger ended up on the bench crying next to Maurkice Pouncey and it felt like the end of an era. Skip Bayless still believes in Ben Roethlisberger. He also loves Devin Bush and feels the Steelers stole him in the first round of the draft. So when Devin Bush comes back he doesn't feel the Steelers defense is going to be any worse even if they lose Bud Dupree in the offseason.
Skip Bayless says he is pretty sure the Steelers will take Najee Harris in the first round. In fact, he says they better take Najee. He also said the running back is the quarterback's best friend and Bayless believes Harris will become Ben Roethlisberger's new best friend in Pittsburgh and it will change the way the offense is run in Pittsburgh. Najee will tilt the Steelers back into a more balanced team.
I've never heard Skip Bayless take so many W's in one segment in regards to the Pittsburgh Steelers than I heard in this one. He says Ben Roethlisberger just knows how to play quarterback and he knows how to stay upright in the pocket. Bayless says Ben will be inspired by what Tom Brady did in 2020.
Ben may have stared into his football mortality after the Browns game, but Bayless feels we will see a much more committed Big Ben going into the 2021 season. He feels the Steelers will still rival Baltimore for being the best team in the AFC North.
