In short, the answer is yes. Coming into week 1, the Steelers were already without one of their top linemen and that was David DeCastro. However, this week against the Giants led to even more trouble on the offensive line front. This morning we hear that Zach Banner who was the starting RT might have a torn ACL. This would be a huge blow to an already thin offensive line. Another injury was the hometown kid, Stefen Wisniewski who came off the field shaky. This could prove to be issues for the Steelers; however, the Steelers have always followed the “Next man up” type of mantra. However, it would be good to keep enough offensive linemen on the roster to keep our quarterback upright throughout the 2020 season.
The loss of Zach Banner will not be good for the Steelers. However, hopefully Chukwuma Okorafor can step in and play well. Also, we look forward to seeing Kevin Dotson after an injury filled camp but it’s going to be quite nerve-wracking if he ends up having to start on the line. Even with him, the Steelers are still very thin. It does not help that it's a short week and we must hope for the recovery of David DeCastro. With recent injuries, should the Steelers hit the market to see if they can bring in any help? Or should we see how we do after this week. If it were up to me, I would bring in another tackle and or guard in case we start to see more injuries on the line. However, we need to wait till the end of the week to see how the injuries all play out. Jerald Hawkins was brought in off the Texans practice squad who is a familiar face and will prove to be some more depth for the team. Which this means, the Steelers have brought back three familiar faces, being Dobbs, Davis and now Hawkins.
Going into week 2, expect a possible different offensive line combination that we haven't seen based on who's available. Hopefully, some guys will step up. There were definitely issues throughout the whole offensive line. We had some low snaps, some bad blocking plays and that is not very encouraging, hopefully the guys get it all figured out. This won't happen, however, this makes me wish the Steelers could give ole' Ramon Foster a call and bring him out of retirement to help us out.
