Team president Art Rooney II was interviewed by Bob Labriola of Steelers.com following the Steelers 2021 schedule release and was asked about the Steelers starting the season on the road for the seventh consecutive year. The Steelers travel to Buffalo to face the Bills in Week 1 this season.
"It would be nice to open at home once in a while," Rooney told Labriola. "It's not the biggest deal in the world. We open on the road and then we come back with two home games, so it's fine. It's not that big a deal, but I would say we're due for a home opener, that's for sure."
The last time the Steelers had a home opener in Week 1 was in 2014 against the Browns. It's by far the longest streak in the league without a home opener to start the season. The Steelers are 3-2-1 in their previous six season openers.
