The King of Sacks in the NFL for 2020 has been getting a little disrespect lately. TJ Watt was again robbed from the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2020. That is two consecutive years TJ should have been the DPOTY. He is getting respect from his fellow teammates by being named the team MVP for two consecutive years and Mike Tomlin has been on the record saying Watt is visiting from another planet.
Pro Football Focus gave TJ Watt a grade of 91.6 at the end of the 2020 season. He finished 2020 2 sacks shy of taking James Harrison's franchise season sack record in Pittsburgh. Watt played 15 games, 53 tackles, 43 solo tackles, 15 sacks, and 1 interception in 2020. In 4 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he has 49.5 sacks! Those are monster numbers coming from the edge.
The highest graded EDGE since 2018 has been named Khalil Mack by Pro Football Focus. Since 2018 Khalil Mack has 30 sacks. It's funny because TJ Watt has 42.5 sacks since 2018. That is 12.5 more sacks from TJ Watt than Khalil Mack. It is time to start giving TJ Watt the respect he deserves. Clearly, Watt has been better than Mack since 2018, but Khalil has been a force on the football field consistently since 2015.
It is going to take TJ Watt to have multiple 20+ sack seasons to finally get the respect he deserves, unfortunately. Being snubbed in 2019 and 2020 should fire up TJ Watt heading into the 2021 season. I would not want to be a quarterback in 2021 looking at the edge seeing TJ Watt looking at you like a piece of meat. Watt should be a bigger monster in 2021 which is his contract year.
