Pirates game on Sept. 11 could prevent the Steelers from having a home opener in Week 1

The Steelers haven't had a home game in Week 1 since 2014, which is by far the longest streak in the NFL. And it appears that the streak could extend to eight consecutive years without a home opener.

The Pirates have a 1:35 p.m. game against the Cardinals on Sept. 11, and the issues centering around why the Steelers haven't had a Week 1 home opener since 2014 has to do with the fact that Heinz Field shares parking with PNC Park. So, unless it's a Sunday night or Monday night game, the Steelers will start on the road in 2022. A Sunday night game might even be cutting it close, as the Pirates game will probably end around 5 p.m., but there could be ample enough time to clear out parking for a Steelers game.

The full 2022 NFL schedule will be released on May 12 at 8 p.m. EST.
