The Steelers wrapped up their three-day mandatory minicamp this afternoon and their focus now turns to training camp in late July. As of right now, however, they don't have a set date on when training camp will start or where it will take place.
Last season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Steelers did not hold training camp at Saint Vincent College for the first time since 1965 and had it at Heinz Field instead.
"I don’t necessarily have the answer to that," Mike Tomlin said when asked what's the best-case scenario for training camp. "I know I’ve got some calendars on my desk so I’m ready for whatever. But we haven’t received any official word on what some of the details regarding training camp and things that you asked. Rest assured, regardless of where we are and when we are, that we will be ready."
Tomlin also said that he thought he would know by now whether they would have training camp at Saint Vincent College or Heinz Field.
"We don’t always get what we want, as we know, when we are dealing with policy and global decision making and things of that nature," Tomlin said. "I had hoped to get some clarity prior to now, but I haven’t."
Steelers president Art Rooney II has stated all offseason that they're hoping to get back to Latrobe and he mentioned last month that if they can't host fans at training camp, he wasn't sure if they'll go to Saint Vincent College.
