Mike Tomlin isn't very active on Twitter, but he expressed support for Dr. Cornel West on Twitter this morning for his decision to resign from Harvard University.

"Salute to Dr. Cornel West...that's the tweet," Tomlin tweeted.

West, who is one of the nation's top Black scholars and civil rights activists, released his letter of resignation to a Harvard dean on Twitter last night that was captioned in part, "I try to tell the unvarnished truth about the decadence in our market-driven universities! Let us bear witness against this spiritual rot!"

West's resignation comes after he said Harvard denied him an opportunity to receive tenure and hinted that his support of the Palestinians in the Middle East played a factor in the administration's decision. He also noted that when it was announced in the regular newsletter that his mother passed away, he only received two public replies.

West ended his resignation letter by saying the following: "This kind of narcissistic academic professionalism, cowardly deference to the anti-Palestinian prejudices of the Harvard administration, and indifference to my Mother's death constitute an intellectual and spiritual bankruptcy of deep depths. In my case, a serious commitment to Veritas requires resignation -- with precious memories but absolutely no regrets!"
