The Steelers dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars in every facet of the game today and walked out of TIAA Bank Field with a 27-3 victory, and are now 10-0 on the season and remain as the lone undefeated team in the league. While the Steelers won decisively, there are still areas where they can improve.
"We did the job today. We checked the boxes," Mike Tomlin said in his post-game interview. "It wasn't perfect. But nothing is perfect about us except our record. We talked openly about that last night. We want to wear it the proper way. We want to step into stadiums and be prepared to fight and compete every week and understand that we are going to get people's best shot. So, I liked the general attitude today. We were able to get the job done and we will get ready for our short week."
The Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving night at Heinz Field in part II of this season. The Steelers got the best of the Ravens in Week 8 at Baltimore with a 28-24 win that went down to the final play of the game. The Ravens have lost their last two games, losing to the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans, and are 4.5 games behind the Steelers in the AFC North. With it being Thanksgiving night and another installment of Steelers-Ravens, Tomlin knows it's going to be an intense atmosphere.
"We are back in the AFC North, in the hot kitchen on Thursday night and we are honored to do that, to entertain on that special day and be a part of that," Tomlin said. "We don't take that for granted. We have some work ahead of us."
Injury notes
Tight end Zach Gentry suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and did not return to the game.
"Zach Gentry had a significant knee injury in-game. I will have an update on that I am sure for you tomorrow," Tomlin said. "All of the others were minor bumps and bruises associated with play, even Joe Haden. He was able to go back into the game after he sustained an injury. But with bumps and bruises on a short week, we aren't taking anything for granted. We'll assess those and update you guys appropriately and put together a plan that is focused on the healthy guys. I think that is the appropriate thing to do on a short week."
Tomlin was asked at the end of his post-game interview about the status of JuJu Smith-Schuster, who suffered a toe injury late in the game.
"I don't think it's anything major and that is why I just associated it with the bumps and bruises of play," Tomlin said about Smith-Schuster's toe injury. "It could be a factor for him, it could be a factor for others dealing with a short week."
Vance McDonald has been on the reserve/COVID-19 list since Nov. 9 and Tomlin was asked if there was any update on his status. “None. I’m sure I’ll have something for you at some point next week,” Tomlin said.
Haded tweeted after the game that he was fine after getting injured in the third quarter.
