Mike Tomlin deserves more respect

In 2019 the Steelers could have panicked when Ben Roethlisberger went down with a serious elbow injury. Instead, Tomlin did not blink and barely missed the playoffs with Mason Rudolph at the helm. The Steelers back up quarterbacks did not do an exceptional job either by filling in for Ben Roethlisberger, but Tomlin had the Steelers come and play football prepared every Sunday. Fast Forward to this point in the season. The Steelers are undefeated with a record of 5-0. Tomlin didn't blink in the offseason and put the Steelers into position to become a real Super Bowl threat in the NFL.

There are currently only 3 undefeated teams in the NFL and Mike Tomlin's team is one of them. Although it is still early in the season Coach Tomlin could be considered for the Coach of the Year Award already, but we will see how the rest of the season plays out. In fact, with the recent news of Le'Veon Bell working his way out of New York and Antonio Brown has still yet to find a new football team he dealt with both guys at the same time on the same team. He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for dealing with those two guys. Tony Dungy has said it best in regards to Tomlin.

“Mike Tomlin is an excellent coach,” Dungy said. “He was 29-years old when I interviewed him. It took me 15 minutes to figure out this young man has something special. I’m really not sure why he doesn’t get a little more credit.”

Tomlin is a special coach who is often overlooked as being an 'Elite,' NFL Coach. Through 213 games Tomlin's record stands as 138 wins with 74 losses and 1 tie. His Monday Night Football record is exceptional (16-2). Tomlin has also led the Steelers to two Super Bowl appearances and won one of those. He is on track to make some noise in the playoffs this season if the Steelers can find a way to stay healthy and keep Ben Roethlisberger upright.

Time is ticking on the Tomlin and Roethlisberger duo so they want to get this right within the next couple of seasons. What better position has Tomlin set his team up then being 5-0 heading into Sunday. We have been saying it for years to enjoy the ride while it lasts in regards to the Steelers because once Tomlin and Ben Roethlisbeger are gone things will be drastically different. It is about time Mike Tomlin gets the respect he deserves because he has established a special team in 2020 on all sides of the football and is an exceptional coach. He has players who just want to show up, do their job, and win. A win first culture has developed in Pittsburgh and it is thanks to Mike Tomlin for creating it. It is time for Mike Tomlin to get his respect inside and outside of the NFL.
