Merril Hoge says the Steelers need to cut bait with Devin Bush. 'He won't get better'

On the heels of Devin Bush saying that he has "nothing to prove" since he's a first-rounder and a top-10 pick, former Steelers running back Merril Hoge just flat-out went off on Bush on 93.7 The Fan on Friday.

"He won't get better. You don't win with those kinds of guys," Hoge said.

Hoge even went as far as saying that Robert Spillane is the Steelers best inside linebacker. Did Hoge forget about Myles Jack?

After a horrendous 2021 season, the Steelers decided to not place the fifth-year option on Bush. Hoge thinks the Steelers should just get rid of Bush after this season. He's seen enough.

"You gotta cut bait there," Hoge said. "Doesn't play smart or fast. Doesn't play with good technique. Doesn't play with good instincts. He gets targeted by teams in the passing game. Not a good football player."

Hoge was brutally honest with his take on Bush. But in all reality, he's really not wrong. For being the 10th overall pick in 2019 (the Steelers traded up for him, too), Bush has been a major disappointment. The chances that he turns things around are slim. Unless Brian Flores can work some magic, he'll likely join Jarvis Jones and Artie Burns as first-round pick busts under Kevin Colbert's watch.
