Kirk Cousins named a likely' replacement for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh

Ben Roethlisberger should announce his retirement at any moment from now. So the question going into the offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers will be who will take the reins from him? There has been rumors swirling that it could be Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, or a young quarterback from the NFL draft (Kenny Pickett). A new era is set to begin for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the 2022 season.

There will be many positions of need heading into the 2022 offseason, but the one that is most needed is a quarterback along with beefing up the offensive line. Najee Harris, Dionate Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth will be back in 2022, but who could be throwing to them?

According to Chad Graff of the Athletic who covers the Minnesota Vikings he is naming the Pittsburgh Steelers as a 'likely' candidate for Kirk Cousins. Graff said the Broncos, Panthers, and the Steelers are the most likely to trade for Kirk Cousins in the offseason.

One of the reasons why the Steelers are named is because Cousins is owed $35 million and the Vikings will accrue a $45 million dollar cap hit. Those numbers alone will lower Cousins value drastically on the open market. Another reason why the Vikings could offload Cousins is because they have no been able to get over their playoff woes with him. It could be time for the Vikings to start investing in a new quarterback and look more toward their future without Cousins at the helm in Minnesota.

The Steelers love a good bargain without giving up much of their draft capital. Kirk Cousins could be a name to watch for in the offseason if the Steelers continue to operate the way the organization loves to operate. This would also fill a big hole left at the quarterback position going forward in Pittsburgh. Look for Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson's names to also be rumored for Pittsburgh going forward into the offseason. This should be an exciting offseason for the Steelers as they're walking into it with very flexible cap room.
