It was announced on Wednesday that the NFL owners agreed to a new rule that will expand jersey number options for certain positions. For example, wide receivers and cornerbacks will now be allowed to wear single-digit numbers.
JuJu Smith-Schuster wore No. 9 in college at USC and took to Twitter tonight to ask fans if he should switch from No. 19 to No. 9.
Steelers kicker Chris Boswell wears No. 9, so Smith-Schuster would have to compensate Boswell to get his number. Boswell told Smith-Schuster on Instagram, 'Just gimme a blank check and it's yours."
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic said it's not a simple process to just switch jersey numbers, as established players who decide to change their number are responsible for buying back produced yet unsold jerseys, which can be expensive and just not worth the investment.
