Bob Labriola released a Steelers-By-Position: WRs article on Steelers.com today, and he made an interesting observation in regards to JuJu Smith-Schuster, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 17.
Labriola said, "Smith-Schuster is set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 17, and despite his pronouncements on social media that he wants to continue his career with the Steelers, he's unlikely to want to accept what the cap-strapped Steelers would be able to pay him on a new contract."
Smith-Schuster's mom, Sammy, caught wind of the story after Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote an article about what Labriola said and she called it "fake news."
Sammy responded to jujusburgh on IG, who posted Florio's headline.
While Labriola is an employee of the Steelers, what he said was just his observation and opinion, and it does not reflect on what might actually be going on with the Steelers and Smith-Schuster.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that the Steelers have been in communication with Bud Dupree, who's also set to become a free agent in a few weeks. It's unclear if the Steelers have been in talks with Smith-Schuster, however. Judging by his "Now let's talk" comment on Instagram after it was announced that Ben Roethlisberger signed a new contract with the Steelers on Thursday, I'm assuming there hasn't been any communication or very little with the Steelers.
