James Conner and Benny Snell expected to Split Carries against the Broncos

Zackary Napolitano

James Conner went down with an ankle injury last week against the Giants in Week 1. Benny Snell had his number called and he rushed for his first 100-yard rushing game in the NFL. Ian Rapoport reported this morning that James Conner and Benny Snell will split carries during the Broncos game today. Conner took the day off on Wednesday from practice to heal up, but was back Thursday and Friday 100%. Injuries have plagued James Conner throughout his career. He missed 6 games last season due to a Shoulder Injury. Conner has not played a full 16 game season in his career so far. His numbers are dipping as well. His rushing yards went from 74.8 to 46.4 per game and his scrimmage yards went from 113.1 to 71.5. His touchdowns have also dipped from 13 to 7 according to NFL.com.

Just a week ago Mike Tomlin said James Conner was going to be the 'Bell Cow,' for the Steelers.

"There is no question about who our bell cow is, Our bell cow is James Conner, and he is our primary ball-toter."

Last season James Conner's 464 yards marked the first time in more than 50 years that the Steelers haven't had a player rush for more than 500 yards. That is a horrible stat for James Conner. Are the Steelers finally realizing that James Conner is not their 'Bell Cow,' after just one week? Seems so. It will be interesting to see how the Running back position continues to play out in Pittsburgh. Conner better produce today or the Steelers could be looking towards Benny Snell more in the future.
