There has been much speculation in regards to the Steelers running game lately. Even Art Rooney II says the Steelers will be committed to fixing the running game during the 2021 offseason. There have been many running backs that have been connected to the Steelers this offseason so far. Aaron Jones, Duke Johnson, Najee Harris, Travis Etienne, Javonte Williams, and plenty of others.
ESPN's John Clayton recently sat down with 93.7 the fan last Wednesday and talked about who would make sense to the Steelers in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.
Clayton: “Knowing the importance of the running game, and knowing that there’s a change in offensive coordinators, change maybe a little bit in offensive philosophy, I could see Najee being that first-round pick."
Clayton acknowledges there are many teams in the market for a running back especially the New York Jets who select one pick before them. Sports Illustrated and Todd McShay have both also mocked Najee to the Steelers. So far that is 3 sportswriters who have said they expect the Steelers to take Harris in the first round.
The Steelers also gave Harris a lot of attention at the Senior Bowl. The other team reportedly showing heavy interest is the Miami Dolphins too. Najee only did an interview during the Senior bowl instead of participating. It would make sense for the Steelers to draft Harris in the first round and then pick offensive line going further into the draft because the offensive line draft class in 2021 is very deep.
