Longtime draft analyst for the NFL Network Daniel Jeremiah was on Ari Meirov's podcast on Wednesday, and he flat-out said that all signs point to Liberty quarterback Malik Willis landing with the Steelers.
It's still very early in the process, but the Steelers definitely seemed intrigued by Willis at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. last week. That's why Jeremiah's comments were so interesting. And Willis certainly has the mobility that Mike Tomlin has been craving for in a quarterback.
“Everyone thinks he’s going there (Pittsburgh) by the way," Jeremiah told Meirov. "Just being down there and being around NFL circles and buddies, everyone’s saying that he’s going to be a Steeler.”
Jeremiah also said that Willis was the top quarterback at last week's Senior Bowl.
"He's not as far along, but you saw Mahomes, Herbert and Allen all progress and develop. This kid is on that track. He's just starting further behind," Jeremiah said.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com has the Steelers trading up from No. 20 to No. 17 with the Chargers to select Willis in his mock draft 1.0.
"Willis might not have played for a traditional college football power, but he is hard to bring down, can extend plays and has the arm to attack all areas of the field. The Steelers move up for their next starting QB," Zierlein wrote.
According to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, Tomlin, Kevin Colbert and Matt Canada had a lengthy talk with Willis' parents at the Senior Bowl.
Tomlin, Colbert and Canada were also seen talking with Willis at the Senior Bowl
