Chris Simms believes the Steelers move to get Dwayne Haskins was smart

Dwayne Haskins was a free man after being benched Week 16 against the Panthers. Ron Rivera decided it was time for his football team to move on. It was a bold move to cut a first-round draft pick who has not played much football in the NFL. One man's trash is another man's treasure they say. Now Haskins will move into a better football system with the Pittsburgh Steelers. A system that wants Haskins. One that is willing to let him develop behind Ben Roethlisberger if he makes the roster.

We have such a small sample size with Dwayne Haskins playing in the NFL so we really don't know what Haskins is truly capable of in a good football system. Well, we are about to find out with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chris Simms recently discussed this signing a few weeks ago saying this was a smart signing by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Simms says we don't know what he is going to be yet. Haskins is a first-round draft pick, sometimes they can be busts, and sometimes they can be superstars. At the end of the day, they're picked in the first round because they have elite traits.

Simms says when evaluators look at you during the scouting process they pick you in the first round because they feel you have one or two things that can make you elite and you could become a superstar. Now whether that person works or not is on the player, coaching staff, and organization to make that work. Simms says Haskins has two elite traits right off the bat. They're his size and he has a big arm.

Why Simms likes this signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers is he expects Haskins to not play this year. This will give Haskins the time to mature. Haskins just needs time to mature like being the last one in the building and the first one to leave. He just didn't know what it took to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL. Chris says he thinks Haskins is a good kid or loves football and when you get him around a coach like Mike Tomlin and around a bunch of crazy alpha football guys that could get him going in the right direction. He feels it is smart for both sides on the Haskins deal.

I agree 100 percent with what Simms is saying. The Steelers virtually are getting a top 15 pick for nothing. $850,000 dollars with no gurantees. A prove-it contract to play for one of the best organizations in the NFL. Mike Tomlin was smart to bring in Dwayne Haskins.
