Chase Claypool wins the Joe Greene Great Performance Award for being the Top Rookie on the Steelers

It was announced this morning that Chase Claypool has won the Joe Greene Rookie Award. This award is given to the top Rookie on the team. Some can make a case that Kevin Dotson deserves some recognition with this award, but Chase Claypool has made the most impact. Claypool started off fast at the beginning of the season and teams started to catch on. He is still having his impact felt on the field especially when the ball is thrown downfield. Many Steelers players have complimented Chase Claypool during training camp and now we see why.

Joe Haden on Claypool: "He has impressed me for sure," said cornerback Joe Haden during camp. "Just his size, his speed, his ability to adjust to the ball in the air. He doesn't say too much. He is out there every day asking questions, just getting the routes. He has been doing a really good job. I think he is a great young talent. His work ethic shows he wants to be great. He doesn't do too much talking. He just gets after it. As long as he knows the playbook, him and Ben are on accord with the checks, he has all of the physical attributes to be a baller. He is a big, fast receiver. He is able to adjust to the ball in the air. He is a big body, deep threat, with soft hands who can jump up and get it."

Ben Roethlisberger on Chase Claypool: "He works. He works hard," said Roethlisberger. "He doesn't make a lot of mistakes. I've said this numerous times. If he does make a mistake, he won't make the same one twice, and I think that says a lot about a young guy."

That is big praise from Ben Roethlisberger on Chase Claypool in the offseason which is rare coming from the Two-Time Super Bowl Champion. Ben and Tomlin normally don't like to talk up Rookies, but Claypool was an exception. In 15 games this season Claypool has 57 receptions, 8 receiving touchdowns, 10 carries for 16 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, and he is averaging a 13.5-yard average. Joe Haden was right when he said if Claypool can stay healthy he will be a baller. Congratulations to Chase Claypool on winning the Joe Greene Great Performance Award!
