Finally, some positive news coming out from the Pittsburgh Steelers this week! Cam Heyward has been named NFLPA Community MVP for Week 1. Cam raised over $200,000 from the Heyward House at a homecoming-themed event in Pittsburgh this week. The money will go towards buying backpacks with healthy food, suits, ties, and clothing for young men. The money is also going to kids who don't have a means of having a Birthday Party while growing up. This allows them to celebrate their Birthdays. Heyward also installed his first Little Free Library in the Pittsburgh area. This allows underserved Pittsburgh Communities 24-7 access to books and book-sharing. The Literacy Project is called Rufus and Judy Jordan Literacy project, named after his Grandfather.
NFLPA is donating $10,000 to the Heyward House Foundation. Heyward will have a choice to decide where he would like to donate the money. Cam is eligible to receive the Alan Page Community Award at the end of the Season.
