Bruce Arians contrasts preparation of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning with Ben Roethlisberger

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians has coached some legendary quarterbacks in his career. Three of them are sure-fire future first-ballot Hall of Famers in Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady. He also molded Andrew Luck when he first came into the league and revived Carson Palmer's career when he was the head coach in Arizona.

Arians is in his first year coaching Brady, who's considered by many as the GOAT, which is hard to argue as he'll be appearing in his 10th Super Bowl on Sunday and will be looking to win his seventh Super Bowl title.

Arians said on Wednesday that there wasn't much to tweak in coaching Brady, as he picked up the offensive system quickly. Arians praised Brady for how he takes care of himself and his preparation. Arians also said that Brady and Manning are in a league of their own when it comes to their preparation compared to other quarterbacks he has coached.

"He's a great, great player. His preparation reminds me so much of Peyton Manning," Arians said of Brady. "Peyton Manning, those two guys set the bar as far as preparation for the guys that I have coached."

Arians said Roethlisberger's style was the complete opposite of Brady and Manning.

"Ben didn't want that stuff, he just liked to go play, and he knew what he was doing, but you didn't want to overload him," Arians said. "Andrew Luck was the same way, he was so smart. But all these guys have a grit about them that they can will themselves on other people and make them win."

Arians' comment wasn't a shot at Roethlisberger. It's just the truth. Roethlisberger has always been known as a gunslinger and has a "backyard football" type of approach when playing the quarterback position. Brady and Manning are also two of the most cerebral quarterbacks in the history of the game when it comes to film study and preparation. So it's not a knock.

Roethlisberger just plays the game differently, and that's fine, he's a two-time Super Bowl champion and will be in Canton someday. Arians was just highlighting the differences from the great quarterbacks that he's coached in his career and admiring Brady's preparation on and off the field to get him to the point of playing in his 10th Super Bowl at the age of 43.
