Cornerback Shakur Brown could be one of the biggest undrafted free-agent steals in the 2021 NFL draft. The cornerback position was very deep going into the 2021 NFL draft and that is one of the reasons why Shakur Brown went undrafted. Many draft analysts feel Brown is a very capable NFL prospect, but the problem is he only had 12 career starts at the College level. He has also been compared to an 'Angry Hornet' when watching him play the game of football. That is great news because the Steelers love to play physical football on the defensive side.
Mike Hilton and Steven Nelson both left the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2021 offseason so they will need to find suitable replacements for both players heading into the 2021 season. It looks like they will be moving Cam Sutton to the outside in 2021 which will free up the CB slot position. The Steelers have plenty of options currently on the roster to fill that position, but Pro Football Focus feels Brown will be one of the biggest steals of the 2021 NFL draft.
Bleacher Report also feels Shakur Brown will make the Steelers team in 2021. They say Brown is one of the most shocking names to fall out of the 2021 NFL draft. Many draft analysts thought Brown would come off of the board during Day 2 of the NFL draft, but he ended up going undrafted. Over seven games Shakur had five interceptions and Pro Football Focus gave him an 84.2 in coverage which was the highest grade in the Big Ten.
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein also thought Brown was a fourth-round draft pick, but he was concerned about Shakur's size going forward. His size alone should regulate him to the slot cornerback position, but that is perfect for the Steelers after they recently lost Mike Hilton in free agency to the Bengals.
Given the need and Brown's ball-hawking tendencies, headlines speculating about him starting as a rookie could start flying after camp opens. So Bleacher Report feels Shakur Brown could make the Steelers and be a starting cornerback for the team going forward after training camp. That would be a great story for him especially since he went undrafted!
