The Steelers have been bit by the COVID-19 Train with numerous players getting placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list today for being in close contact with Vance McDonald, who was placed on the list yesterday after testing positive. The four players are Ben Roethlisberger, Jerald Hawkins, Jaylen Samuels and Vince Williams.
The four players are just deemed as high-risk exposure due to interactions with McDonald and he must isolate for 5 days. So we will see what happens with this as the week goes on.
This is really bad news. However, hopefully, the players bounce back pretty quickly but still, this might be the first wave in a group of many players getting affected by COVID-19. Hopefully, we can well isolate these players who are affected and make sure that the rest of the team can play this Sunday against the Bengals.
This was bound to happen and now we just have to see how we can respond to this adversity. We are definitely going to be missing Ben this week against the Bengals and the loss of Vince Williams who is a leader on the defense will not bode well for our defense. However, luckily, we have added Williamson and that just might help us get over the hump.
"We have a player who tested positive for COVID, and he will not be available this week," Tomlin said today at his weekly press conference. "He's resting at home and going through all the necessary things as it pertains to that. Also, we had a number of players – four who were acknowledged (Tuesday) morning who are also in the program because of contact. And so it is our desire to participate fully in the procedure. Those guys will be working remotely throughout the week and testing daily. As long as their tests come back negative, we believe all four guys have an opportunity to be made available to us on Saturday."
Tomlin said due to now having five players on the reserve/COVID-19 list all meetings this week in preparation for the Bengals will be held remotely.
