There is no question the Pittsburgh Steelers need to take a running back in the 2021 NFL draft. The question is which running back would fit the mold of the Steelers better? In my opinion, I really like Najee Harris the most. I think he is the most complete back, but I would be ok if the Steelers picked Travis Etienne or Javonte Williams.
Arthur Moats recently said on his Podcast the Steelers have to get a running back in the 2021 NFL Draft at some point. Moats says the clear-cut running backs in the 2021 NFL draft are Travis Etienne, Najee Harris, and Javonte Williams. The question is which one do you like more? Moats went with either Javonte Williams or Najee Harris. Moats says Najee is the bigger guy and Javonte is the smaller guy, but Javonte gives him a little bit more burst.
The biggest thing for Moats was watching Javonte Williams go for 400 yards against the Miami Hurricanes in 2020. Which was crazy to him. Now of course Moats is overexaggerating saying Williams went for 400 yards because he really had 23 attempts, for 236 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Nonetheless, that is still pretty impressive.
It was a tough decision for Arthur Moats to pick between Javonte and Najee, but he picked Javonte Williams. Moats says he loves the fact that Najee is a big and strong powerful running back, but the amount of missed tackles that Javonte generates makes guys miss at a high rate. Arthur feels the Steelers will not be able to fully fix their offensive line so that is why he is also picking Javonte. He feels Javonte is more elusive than Najee granted Harris can make guys miss, but that is not his forte.
One big thing Moats said in making his decision was that Javonte was not the focal point in North Carolina because he had Michael Carter Jr. whereas Najee was the focal point in Alabama so Williams got a lot fewer carries. That would mean there is less mileage on Javonte than Harris.
