Alex Highsmith was one of the standouts from yesterday's first padded practice, as he reportedly had his way with rookie offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. all day. Here's what Mike Tomlin had to say after practice about Highsmith's performance.
"I thought 56 (Highsmith) particularly was stout at the point of attack when we ran over in that direction," Tomlin said. "But, again, he was playing against a younger guy in his first exposure to the drill because we didn't have Chuks (Okorafor) in there.
"You can paint with a broad brush and tell whatever story you want to tell this time of year. I'm just going to keep snapping the ball and let those guys reveal to us who and what they are."
A Steelers fan at Heinz Field captured a lethal spin-move by Highsmith on Moore yesterday, and Highsmith quite simply timed the spin to perfection. You can watch the video below.
Highsmith's dad commented on the video and said, "That’s the Smitty Spin."
As Tomlin noted, Highsmith was going up against a rookie, but it was still an impressive spin-move nevertheless. And hopefully Highsmith can continue to build on his pass rush repertoire, as the Steelers are going to need him to step up in Year 2 and replace the production of Bud Dupree, who signed with the Titans in free agency.
