ESPN analyst Booger McFarland was on “Get Up” on Tuesday morning and said the Steelers should not draft a quarterback in the first round with Ben Roethlisberger returning for another season, but it wouldn't be a bad decision to select Flordia quarterback Kyle Trask in the second round.
Now another ESPN personality is saying the Steelers should draft a quarterback. According to Andrew Filipponi of 93.7 The Fan, Adam Schefter said the Steelers should be looking for another quarterback in the draft.
I can see why analyst are pushing for the Steelers to draft a quarterback since Roethlisberger is 39 years old and this upcoming year will likely be his last. However, the Steelers are just not going to waste a draft pick on a quarterback when the team still believes they can compete for a Super Bowl and are going all-in with Roethlisberger for one last ride.
As Filipponi mentions, the Steelers need to address the running back, offensive tackle and center position early in the draft to help the team win now. The Steelers will try to develop both Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, but all indications point to the Steelers getting Roethlisberger's heir apparent in the 2022 NFL Draft.
