3 Steelers who need to make a leap in 2021

Alex Highsmith

I believe Alex will continue to get better. Bud Dupree was next level; however, Alex did a great job stepping into the position he was asked to play in. It’s definitely no small task to come into a position where someone was on the road to a Pro-Bowl like season and be asked to perform the same duties, I think Alex came into his own, if Bud Dupree is to walk in Free Agency, I would like to think that we would be okay with Alex Highsmith in that position. I’m hoping that he would be the Steelers next great Linebacker. If Bud Dupree comes back, I just want Alex to stay ready. His moment can always come, and he has shown he can rise to the occasion.

Diontae Johnson

Diontae continues to show why he can be great; however, he has had some gaffes this season. All the drops need to stop, and for the most part, they have. So, I’m hoping we have closed the door on that unhappy chapter of last year of all the drops throughout the whole receiving room. I think in Diontae’s third year we could continue to see a jump and hoping we see numbers that we would typically see of a WR1. It’s looking like JuJu might walk in Free-Agency, so, the Steelers might look inhouse to see if they are able to replace him and his production. Diontae is definitely the guy to do it if this is to happen.

Ben Roethlisberger

This goes without saying, Ben Roethlisberger was good this year, for the most part. However, when the games mattered most his production definitely went down. He was making crappy throws that were hurting the team in the long run. I don’t think it was all his fault, however, Ben needs to have an Improvement this coming season to make sure he can compete with these other teams in the AFC North and around the league. He definitely needs to play like a 41-million-dollar man this coming season. However, since he is willing to take a pay cut, perhaps that won’t be happening. Perhaps Big Ben’s best years are behind him.
